Q: Which ice rink do you coach at?
A: We coach at Ice
Sports Kansas City.
Ice Sports Kansas City
19900 Johnson Dr.
Shawnee, KS 66218
Q: What can I expect in my first lesson?
A: If you are a beginning skater you can expect to learn figure
skating from the very first steps. You will learn how to properly
lace up your ice skates. You will also learn a variety of
off-ice steps before stepping on the ice. If you have been
ice skating before or have figure skated before, your coach
will assess your skating level and proceed from there.
Q: I've purchased your Starter Package Discount Card
and have used all my lessons on the card. Can I re-purchase
another dicount card?
A: No. The Starter Package Discount Card is a one time purchase
and may not be purchased again. You must use your discount
card for four consecutive lessons. This means you can not
wait a month in between one lesson to take another.
Q: What should I wear?
A: An ice rink can be a pretty chilly place to be, so dress
warmly. You'll probably want to purchase some gloves to keep
your hands warm. Remember when you dress to skate you are
participating in an active sport. Do not wear scarves, loose
jewelry, eye glasses, or blue jeans (optional depending on
your skating level - if you are jumping and spinning please
refrain from wearing jeans). Athletic pants and long-sleeve
shirts are highly recommended, nothing baggy.
Q: Is there anything I can do to be ready for my
lesson when I arrive at the rink?
A: You'll want to be at the rink at least 20 minutes before
the beginning of your lesson so you have time to get your
skates on and warm up on-ice. If you are learning freestyle
skating (jumps, spins), you'll want to warm up off-ice by
jogging in place, stretching, off-ice rotational jumps, etc.
We cannot stress how important it is in injury prevention
to be properly warmed up before taking to the ice to work.
Q: I'm renting skates, what should I ask for?
A: Make sure you get figure skates (blades with the toepick)
and ask for a boot with strong ankle support.
Q: What else should I bring to the rink for my lesson?
A: We recommend bringing a bottle of water, kleenex (box or
travel size package) and gloves.
Q: I can't make it to my lesson. What do I do?
A: You must call 24 hours in advance if you can not make it
to the lesson, if not, you will be charged for the lesson
time.
Q: What methods of payment do you accept?
A: Payment can be made by check or cash.
Q: When are payments due?
A: For one lesson a week, payment is due the day of the lesson
for that lesson.
For two or more lessons a week, you can either pay the day
of your lesson or at the beginning of the month for all lessons
to be taken that month. If you miss a lesson we can credit
you for that lesson (you must call to cancel, we will not
credit a "no show").
There is a $25 fee for any returned checks.
Q: What ages do you coach?
A: Children to adult.
Q: My son/daughter is 3 years old, is that too young
to start him/her with skating lessons?
A: No. Actually age 3 is a very good age to get children out
on the ice. It increases their confidence and helps them grow
up without any fears that an older skater may have.
Q: I'm an adult and have never laced up a pair of
skates in my life, can I learn how to skate?
A: Absolutely, you're never too old to participate in this
beautiful sport. |
